6 Reasons Why You Should Compromise Your Style

Hi there! I'm usually one to tell you to go out there, be crazy, and be YOU with your style, but there are some times when going all out is just not the right thing to do. It can lead to really awkward situations, cringe-worthy embarrassment, or just display plain disrespect.

Here are a few situations that could potentially lead to emotional turmoil if you're not careful with what you wear.

1. School

You've probably heard this numerous times in your school years, but school is a workplace. Sure, that skater skirt would look so much better with that crop top, but it's just not cool to reveal that strip of midriff at school. Respect your school's dress code and stick to it. Teachers aren't going to like you very much if all you're doing is showing too much skin at school and ignoring the rules that have been laid you.

2. Interview

When you're trying to get the job or whatever it is you're applying for, that is not the time to test out a new trend or wear a really attention-grabbing ensemble. You don't want to completely get rid of your style, but find a way to express your style in a subtle manner that won't interfere with whether or not you get the gig.

3. Work

I don't work, but from what I know and have heard, work is a lot like school in the sense that you have to recognise the fine line between expressing yourself via what you wear and being disrespectful.

4. Family gathering

This is especially relevant if it's a really formal family gathering because you do NOT want other people talking about what you're wearing in a negative way while your parents are around. It's going to make you and your parents look bad, which is something they surely won't appreciate. Try to be more modest with your style at those gatherings to avoid the trash talk.

5. Roadtrips and flights

After having spent hours and hours and hours driving to Florida and numerous other places in the States and Canada, I've learned that the key is to stay comfortable. Same thing goes for flights. I mean, Lady Gaga can't possibly be comfortable in this, can she? You're likely going to be spending hours confined in a small space, so comfort is KEY.

6. Sick days

Last, but not least, when you're sick, what you need to do is rest. Don't fuss around with what you're going to wear unless you have a special event or something because that's the last thing you should be worrying about. All that stress will just prevent you from getting better sooner.
